Neat! That's a Bell P-39 Airacobra (later evolved into the P-63 Kingcobra), an innovative design which featured the engine behind the pilot, and a 20 mm cannon firing through the prop. They had that door to the cockpit, which we kids (who collected plastic model kits) thought was cool. They weren't so hot as pure fighters, but were good in the ground attack role. By the lack of camouflage, it looks like something flown later in the war. Lots of them were sent to the Soviet Union.
