Featuring the 'vegetable ivory' Taqua Nut string inserts, hand-made in Georgia, USA. Recommended to us by banjo sensation Buddy Wachter.
Hand-made by a craftsman with a passion for banjos, these bridges feature the Taqua Nut inserts, also known as 'vegetable ivory'.
From Mr. Farquhar's notes, "Taqua nuts, which grow on trees in South America, were once used to make buttons. German sailing ships would store the heavy egg-sized nuts in their hulls for ballast. These nuts were destined for large button factories. "Plastic replaced taqua nuts in those factories, but it is still used in the Orient for carving. Taqua looks like elephant ivory, has the same color and grain as ivory. It works super for banjo bridge string inserts."

12/5/2014 Head ripped where it joins the metal rim , I measured the tension loop which was uneven and overtightened . I took it apart , used CA to fix head back onto the rim and reassembled , carefully measuring the tension loop so it would tighten the head evenly. Cleaned up some rough surfaces on the tone ring , tuned to pitch the volume has come way up with even head tension.
