Ryan, I have a question. I have purchased my red book and in process of purchasing the 1001 book. I don't have either in hand yet. My question is which book (the brown or 1001) has the Gibson PB4 banjo in it. There is a specific banjo im trying to locate and I was told it was in Tsumuras book. However, the books are sooo spendy I want to make sure which book this Gibson PB4 is in before laying out that kind of cash.

The 1001 Banjos book and the brown book both have a PB-4 with the serial number 8132-8 and a PB-4 with the serial number 9471-4. I don't see either PB-4 in the red book.

Thanks Ryan. Its the 9471. That banjo is in the 1001? Ok. Thats what i needed to know. I wanted to make sure before doing something crazy and actually buying that book :)

So I found the serial number in the front, and it should correspond with a photo.... but I wasn't able to look at the photo this morning. Let me take a quick look when I get home to be 100% sure, before you put down serious money on a book that big. The brown book tends to be less expensive than "1001 Banjos". It's done in the same general format, has a number of the same banjos, but it's also smaller and less "finished." I'm so affraid of hurting the big "1001 Banjos" book that I almost always check the brown book first. The big book and brown book as so great that I don't use the red book as much.

It's included in 1001 Banjos and the brown book.

I believe it's on page 483 in 1001 Banjos and page 264 in the brown book. If you shoot me a message on BHO, I can email you the photos from the two pages I just took. Nice banjo. The shot in the brown book is even better than 1001 Banjos; shows both sides of the banjo.

The brown one's the hard one to track down. I got really lucky with it. Only 250 were ever out there, so it's a small sample to begin with, and who knows if any have been lost. The 1001 Banjos book is the better book, but there are 2,500, so they're a bit easier to find.
