Glenn, your photos and posts on banjo position have been very helpful to me. I had not seen this photo before. I think I'll try striking the string in the middle of the thumb pad (or at least closer to the middle) and see how that feels and sounds. I must have soft hands because the inside of my thumb is tender for a day or so after a long jam or dance.
