Died in May 1954, age 90. Farland who came here from Jersey City in 1903, got hi start in the minstrel days in 1884. He gave his first banjo concert in 1893, gaining recognition as a talented player. He gave more than 100 banjo recitals a season in the United States and England for some forty years. Farland ended his touring years 15 years ago when his hearing was beginning to fail. He made banjos in Plainfield and new York. Wrote and arranged banjo music and wrote a book how to play the instrument. He was very good friends with William Frederick Fletcher, who wrote on the back of this photo, World's greatest banjoist, 1893.
