I've got a (blond) Ibanez Artist, too, and I love it. I have no idea of the production date, but would love to find out how old it is.
I brass plated all the hardware many years ago, installed Keith Bump Scruggs d-tuners, Five Star Planet tuners and a sliding 5th string capo.
I have considered replacing the tone ring with something like a Tennessee Twenty, but haven't yet.

Does it sound as good as the blue banjo?

I don't know anything about a "blue" banjo but you might say it has quite a "beak". Ahhh...that pre-war stink!
