Did 1143 clean up nicely John? The photos look fine. How does it sound? David E.

David:

It is a very nice, solid, all-original banjo and sounds awesome!

The player-wear is significant. There is a lot of finish cracking and some flaking on the inlays. A strap was used with a metal buckle or clip. The metal must have rubbed against the heel. As a result, the ebony heel cap shows significant wear (but it is one the black wood and not really noticeable). There is a good bit of serious belt buckle rash on the back of the resonator. The neck was bowed.

But - the frets are good, the neck straightened very well with a truss rod adjustment, and the whole thing cleaned up nicely. To me the blemishes are just "character". It looks like a well-played banjo.

Heck John...I have payed lots of money to have Dan Knowles age banjos for me. This sounds like a distress finished Bart Reiter. It is worth a thousand dollars more just for the honest wear. Sounds like a saddle worn player to me. David E.

I like that ;<) Maybe it is worth more than I realize....

But this one ain't for sale. I'll just play it a while and add my own marks to the distressing.
