David: I've never been a big fan of engraving on banjos. But this instrument is such an interesting collection of parts. It is surely a "floorsweep" or "backdoor" banjo. None of them really match. But I love the way they work together.
According to information in the "Baldwin Floorsweep" thread, the engraving is probably the work of a Colorado artist named Al Gabriella well-known for his work engraving spurs, bits and other western goods.
