Steampunk Mad Max Kay Banjo 01

Vintage Kay 5-string, modified with Fender Concert Tone arch-top tone ring, a 1/4" x 3/4" solid neck bar, and a 26 1/2" scale rosewood fingerboard incorporating graduated fret sizes (largest at first position, smallest up the neck).

I am amazed that in eight years none have commented, at least publicly. Building and describing this banjo, may have involved more fun than is actually allowed by law... Well done. Cheers!

Thanks, and glad you got a kick out of it! Yeah, it just doesn't get noticed on here or maybe it's considered stupid, but good friend Greg Rich went nuts over it (and gave it the name), and even videoed it being played at a festival: banjohangout.org/archive/238576. It's also been featured in a long Fretboard Journal piece (fretboardjournal.com/co...punk-banjo), and has been in a couple of special museum exhibits (at one, it was displayed in a glass case next to a $400,000.00 banjo, and the museum told me it got the most attention and photos of it wound up in newspapers and guitar magazines!) So, since it was a therapy banjo project to get me out of a depressed period, it certainly did that and am still having fun with it. Lincoln Hensley and Gabe Hirshfeld have played it (facebook.com/monika.rie...683998183, with Gabe saying "That thing sounds killer!").
