This was Barney McKenna first tenor banjo he played it in the real early years of the dubliners a lot of the early recording was done with this model

Thank you I did not know that. Some folks on Hangout once suggested that this headstock was altered and not original. But I now own two of this model - serial numbers #293 and #294 so we know this headstock design is a Gretsch creation from the late 1940's.
