One way {a easy way} to make a segment{rather than block} rim. I traced around a 11" circle,,, cut it to where it was round like the sun,,,, then traced a smaller circle in the center of the cutout. So I ended up with a large cardboard ring. I divided that 12 3 6 & 9 oclock and cut it. Then it was eacy to trace the little ( looking segments onto wood. For this one I used some OLD pine 2x6. number your segments on each end ,,, so they fit together ,,, and its not confusing. You can then glue the first layer,,,, and after its dry add the second layer. I put a center part of the next layer in the middle of the joint on the first.
My reason for doing it this way rather than a regular block segment rim ,,, is the lack of a tool to smooth the inside of pot , if using blocks. hope this makes sense, question ,,, just ask Steve

Hi Steve...I am interested in making a Tack Head for myself and plan to try your method of using segments...I have been building Banjos for about a year now but have become dis-enchanted with the cost of hardware... I would love to find more information on building Tack heads / Minstrel banjos and be able to produce my own parts...Thanks, Ron
