It's interesting, because the luthier gave me a huge book of inlay patterns to choose from. This one was more interesting to me than any other. I found out later that it is a reproduction of a pattern on an old jazz banjo. I have no idea what kind of banjo this came from, but would like to know.

I finally found the old banjo this one is patterned after. It's a Washburn 421 from 1892. It was the fanciest banjo in the Lyons and Healy catalog from that era. I found the information here: billsbanjos.com/washburn421.htm
