I am so used to having had them around the house as pets that I'm pretty sure if I ever was sitting outside and a wild one came walking over, I'd just reach down and pet it out of habit :-)

By the way, that one up there was Rosie. Before her, we had Gracie, and my first one was Pookie.

Rosie was a little overweight. Somebody spoiled her rotten.

does it use a litter box? I've heard they're much like cats but don't really know

Don't believe what you've heard! They are not like cats or dogs, they are totally just skunks. We started out with litter boxes, but switched to newspapers soon after, for a variety of reasons too gross to go into here :-)

A.. Reminds me of when I was at summer camp (not sure of my age then, but it was under 10) i the Laurentian mountains. I was a bit of a loner, but I made friends with a female skunk, discovering that they liked sponge toffee and those popsicle-like sweet frozen ices that come in polyethylene tubes. She would lie on her back, with all four paws in the air to hold the tube, slurping, licking and nibbling as it thawed and slid down to within her reach. Later that summer she had a litter of four kits, and sometimes all five would follow me around the camp. Needless to say, I became even more of a loner!

LOL!!! Meles, that is so funny! I can just picture the skunk on her back with her popsicle doing that, and also, you walking around with 5 skunks trundling after you. Thanks for such a funny story :-)
