Jerry, I'd like to fit a similar wooden rim inside the cast alum rim of my "Maya" bottlecap, except I'd probably leave the original tone rim area alone, and I don't have the tools to grind off the inner shelf (don't know what to call it) without it looking very crude. My resonator is long gone and it's a better-sounding knockabout openback I'm after anyway. What does yours sound like with the wood lining but without the resonator? Anything like a passable openback? What replacement head could I chose for a more suitable openback sound? I have a good Bart Reiter and I'd like to steer this bottlecap's tone in that direction. To bother you with another question: my measurements indicate my 1970s Japanese bottlecap banjo would require a LOW crown replacement head. Is that what most of them take? Thanks again! Bruce
