John McClaran (with the Afro and beard - third from the left) was my banjo teacher for a few months in about 1974.

Wow, you remember the 70's? :-) But seriously, that's a really great photo to have! I wish I knew the name of my first (and only) banjo teacher back in 75. He had me on a Mel Bay Banjo Method book with no tab, just standard notation.

Another member of that band, John Frost (with the hat - sitting) had a long career on the Grand Old Opry as a member of the singing group: The Four Guys.
For a couple of years in the early 1970s, John & John operated a music store in my home town. Not only did I take lessons there, but that is where I bought the pre-war Gibson parts banjo that I played for about a decade. I really should have kept that banjo....
