My original surname was Musselwhite. My ggg-grandfather dropped the Mussel in the early 1800's and we became M. Whites, and finally just Whites. I am descended from Thomas Musselwhite of Bladen Co., NC (born 1717). Our ancestors go back to Tristram Mussell in Wiltshire Co., England who married Elizabeth White, and their offspring were named Mussell-White. Later they dropped the hyphen and an l from the name, and became Musselwhites. Most Musselwhite descendants in North America reside in North Carolina and Georgia, although some are scattered throughout the US and Canada.
