One of my all time favorites. This is an old 14 inch fretless banjo with wire strings. It's comes from the playing of Glen Smith, my favorite fretless player of all time.

Here's one with fiddle, guitar and clawhammer banjo. I recorded this a couple of weeks ago with some friends here in my den.

This is a simple tune that I've always liked. The banjo is one of my 12 inch openbacks with a heavy tubular brass tonering that I've been making. I recorded it mainly to document the sound before I sent it off to it's new owner.

Another old Skillet Lickers C tune that I like a lot. This was mainly a test recording using Audacity for Mac. I'm going to get this recording stuff down if it kills me! Twelve inch internal resonator banjo.

Here's another one we recorded the other night--it's in honor of my home town, Knoxville. I love those C fiddle rags! Fiddle, guitar and banjo.

This is a 12 inch internal resonator banjo with the heavy brass tubular tonering. The fidelity is pretty bad--I'll eventually learn how to make a decent digital recording! At any rate, it gives an idea of what the big rimmed internal resonator banjos sound like.

This is a version from Glen Smith played on an old fretless with a 14 inch rim, skin head and metal strings. The big thumping sound ain't for everybody, but this is one of my favorite banjos and one of my favorite tunes.

A great old Skillet Lickers tune represented here in incredible Lo-Fi sound. This one was recorded in our camp at Mount Airy back in 1984. I'm playing banjo and whoever was in camp at the time is playing everything else. It was recorded on a pocket cassette recorder (bet you couldn't guess that from the fidelity!), but sure sounds like camp did in those days!
