Two traditional Irish songs recorded 11 years ago in a small chapel in Vernon NJ, by "Thorns and Roses", consisting of myself, Jeannie Cassells, Peggy Greene, and Marty McKernan(subbing for Jack Driscoll) This was a lot of fun! Let me know how you like it!

This song was recorded at the Twain Studio in West Milford, NJ, by Marty McKernan's band, the Moonshine Mountain Boys, who were very popular in the Tri-State area from the mid '70;'s until the bands dissolution in Sept. of 1982. George Dodd was the banjo player on this recording. He died yesterday, Dec. 23, 2015, age 62. R.I.P.

This song is the reason that Eileen Ivers decided to record with us, she liked the song, and apparently liked the idea of maybe being the fiddler of Dooney! Same Clientele as on the Old Bushmill Boys, Mckernan, Nelson, Ivers. Words from a poem by William Butler Yeats, music written by Marty "Moonshine" McKernan. Again, sorry, no banjo, but enjoy anyway!

This song was written by myself, and Marty "Moonshine" Mckernan, of the Moonshine Mt. Boys Fame, back in the early-mid '80;'s. In 1991 we got together to record some things, and decided to do this one professionally. We were lucky enough to get the Great Eileen Ivers to play fiddle and mandolin on it(she was home on break from touring with Hall and Oates), and it was a great session! Recorded at Brendan Harkins Studio in Teaneck NJ, who eventually settled in Nashville. We didn't use any banjo on this song, but I sang backup and clapped! Also appearing was Marty Mck. on lead vocals and guitar, Bruce Nelson on Bass, Mike Griffin on backup vocals, clapping, and $upport, Lois Griffin on clapping, Karen Smith clapping. I think everyone sang backup on the chorus, but I'm not too sure, it was 22 years ago! Hope you enjoy!

Jack gave this to me a long time ago to write music to, and it languished in my banjo case for several years before I came up with a melody for it. He said "no"(kind of like Marcel Marceau in "Silent Movie"), then came up with a better melody than I had. Then we collaborated on some of the verses, and this is the end result.....
