"The Jolly Blacksmith" comes from a 1920 manuscript of the fiddle playing of Williamson Hamblen (1848-1920). Williamson was born in Lee County, Virginia, below the Cumberland Gap, but his father David (also a fiddler; 1809-1893) moved the family to southern Indiana in the 1850s, as he did not want his children to be subject to fighting in the war everyone knew was coming between the North and South. Played by Bob Lanham on a Bart Reiter Bacophone Plus banjo.
