I've had the banjo a week now, and figure I should get some sort of baseline established. Still having trouble fretting the C chord from open strings, and my fingertips continue to feel like they're the size of golf balls. But at least there are signs of progress...

Four days on, most of the chord change hitches have disappeared. It still isn't great, but progress is being made.

This is the first recording I've made with the Saga kit banjo. It will never be mistaken for a Gibson, but it does sound like a banjo!

A wonderful tune written by Steve Martin. Still many mistakes, but making progress. This was using my Saga kit banjo, and the backing track was created with RealBand, using RealTrack instruments (wonderful software, IMO). The tab is from the May 2007 issue (#403) of the Banjo Newsletter (www.banjonews.com).

It's still far from being there, but at least now I have more than one tune in my repertoire :-). I'm finding the 'pinch' version to be slightly easier. Missing is the forward-reverse roll version -- I can't even make that recognizable as a tune yet...

This is my first attempt at playing to, and mixing with, a backing track (many thanks to erstokke!). It's been a little over two months since I first held a banjo in my hands -- a long ways to go, but boy, it sure has been a hoot so far!
