I recorded this original tune, DEARLY DEPARTIN', in hopes of getting BHO feedback. It's played with a CH-style fingering (middle and thumb, all downstrokes) but it breaks rhythm a lot and uses a lot of thumb and finger flicks for added nuances. It's my way of using a frailing-based style to play original, contemporary tunes. I recorded this with my newly downloaded Anvil Studio, which works very well for people like me who want an easy computer-based recording program. I hit the head a lot with my middle finger, and you can hear it here. It's not the best take, but I'm really interested in getting feedback on the tune/concept/style so I wanted to post it and go from there. By the way, the fade out is a live fade, in that I just lightened my touch until it was near quiet.

TWO HOMES is the first original frailing-style tune I wrote. Like DEARLY DEPARTIN', which I wrote after this, I use thumb and finger flicks and lots of brushes to accomplish a more contemporary feel. Not the best version, but I was anxious to get one posted to get some feedback from those who care to listen and comment. The name TWO HOMES comes from my recent situation as a single dad having shared custody of my kids with my former wife. The happy, up parts represent the times when my kids are home with me and the sadder, minor stuff is when I am waiting for their return. Funny how music can sometimes express our feelings better than words.
