Gold Tone CC Traveler banjo

Friday, September 18, 2015

I was the lucky winner of the Banjo Hangout August drawing for a Gold Tone CC Traveler banjo.  Today, I finished getting it "accessorized" so I have everything on it and in the case I need in order to play it.  Installing the railroad spikes to capo the fifth string was the lengthiest part of getting it ready to play.  I like the tone and appearance of the banjo, and it holds its tuning well.

The space between the J hooks and rim is too small to thread a strap in the space.  However, that problem was solved by using spring snap hooks that do fit in the space between the J hooks and rim.

Being two frets shorter than a regular five-string banjo, and having a rolled brass tone ring makes the banjo quite light - another feature that makes it a "Traveler."

Addicted to the sound of "the five" at 15 when I heard Dave Guard of the Kingston Trio play. Bought a Kay banjo, and strumed it. Got serious about learning to pick in the early ?'s using tab, but after 2 1/2 years of intense practicing and practicing, totally failed. Learned of the Murphy Henry method, and began using it in 2005 - learned more in one month from her than I did in 2 1/2 years of tab. Like traditional bluegrass
