Got a Gretsch "B & D Serenader Silver Bell" 5 stringer that I'm trying to learn how to play. Right now it's winning, but I'm making progress! Free advice gladly accepted regarding learning tips.
This a banjo I purchased (new) in a pawnshop in Jacksonville, FL while stationed there in the U.S.Navy. A fleet sailor had ordered it and had to pay it off in full before he could take possession of it. Long story short ...it was mine if I paid the $250.00 still owed on it. Needless to say, I grabbed it. Played around with it a few years and sold it to a good friend (for $250.00). The deal was that if he ever wanted to sell it, I was to get first crack for ...you guessed it... $250.00. I also do wood carving and made this friend of mine an Auburn U. "War Eagle" and low relief wall plaques for three of his grandchildren. A few weeks ago, he said he was ready to give the banjo back; not sell it back! I'm more serious about it this time around.
Should I "G Tune" it or set it up for "C" tuning, which is how it's tuned right now? Educate me, folks! Which is most popular or most used?
As I said earlier ... free advice gladly accepted, either here or through my e-mail at philbutler1@att.net.
