Banjo Hangout member Steven Ware wins Deering banjo in Strings for Dreams Bluegrass Raffle

Monday, May 13, 2024

Our congratulations to Banjo Hangout member, Steven Ware, who is the lucky winner of the 4th annual Strings for Dreams Bluegrass Raffle hosted by the IBMA Foundation! We have spoken to Steve on the phone already today (after the noon drawing May 13), and we'll be shipping this great Golden Era Deering Banjo to him this week. Steve is a developmental math teacher at a technical college in Waco, Texas, and he's been playing the banjo for more than 40 years. We'll post a photo on the IBMA Foundation website and Facebook page and tell you more about our winner in the coming days. Steve's comment today was, "I am absolutely floored!" (He said this several times!) Thanks to Steve and ALL of you who purchased 924 Strings for Dreams tickets, raising $16,465 to help the IBMA Foundation support the future of bluegrass! We appreciate you, and with your help we can make the future of bluegrass music bright! More info at https://bluegrassfoundation.org/

Your Banjo Hangout pal,

Nancy Cardwell,

I grew up in a family bluegrass band in Springfield, Missouri. After teaching high school for seven years and working for the Girl Scouts a couple of years, I served on staff at IBMA in Owensboro and Nashville for 20 years. I'm currently working as executive director for the IBMA Foundation, which supports bluegrass-related education programs and initiatives through philanthropy and planned giving. Check out our website at bluegrassfoundation.org. I play acoustic bass, rhythm guitar, hammered dulcimer, sing and write songs. I've been a music journalist since around 1980. I've performed with a number of bands in MO, KY and TN. The one you would recognize is Jesse McReynolds and his Virginia Boys. I am married to a banjo player, Bob Webster, who is also a member of this group. My first husband, Frank Erdos, who died in 1989 from cancer, was a banjo player from Connecticut.
