Ready to Upgrade

Wednesday, December 24, 2014

So I've been playing for about 6 months now and I started off with actually a pair of banjos to get going. I grabbed up a deering parlor style banjo, which I plan on keeping around for the kids and traveling, and a fender FB 54. I originally liked the way the fender sounded and I didn't  really know much about banjos at the time. As I'm learining more things to play I'm realizing how much sound the FB54 is missing compared to other banjos. I've decided that it's time to do an upgrade, but here's the issue at hand, I live in Fairbanks Alaska. Up here there's 3 music stores, 1 sells deering, 1 sells fender and the other is a wreck. It's hard to pick an instrument that I haven't played, but I am going to have to wing it and hope for the best. I'm looking to invest around 1500 into one that is going to last me a while and I'm mainly focused on playing bluegrass style. I've been in the debate of just getting the FB 58 cause it's here local, but i've been loking at others online. If I were to get one online I'm leaning towards getting the recording king RK 80 or 75/76 elite model. I know there's more out there in that price range but from what i can tell over watching youtube and other banjo reviews it's going to be a stab in the dark. Any suggestions would be great.
