I'm from NC, so you gotta play it like the man around here and drive it hard - none of that sissy west of the mississippi stuff. I got into BG during my freshman year of college (1987) and we formed a little duo with a banjo player on the same hall and me on guitar- to which we proceeded to harass everyone with our AWEFUL versions of banjo tunes. We didnt get as many chicks as when i was playing electric guitar in a rock band either! but i never picked up the electric again, sold em all.

Moved to Nashville in 1991 after college, through some great contacts, got a job at Gibson in the QC dept - best job in the whole factory - got to check and sign my name to every instrument that went out the door. Then at night, we'd pick! ahh, the good ol' days - got to hang out with a lot of great pickers and meet a lot of famous who's who at the jams at the old Station Inn (one i didnt get to meet unfortunately was the late John Hartford, who would later become a big influence on me)- then on Saturday morning, go down to the old Gruhns on Broadway and pick everything they had (back when you could do that) - but, alas, had to get a *real* job, so i moved back to NC where i guess i'll stay.

Lots of bands thru the years - played every instrument - mando with The BlueGrassHoles, guitar with The Beard Bros, bass with New Vintage and The GrassCats (for a short time, that wasnt my kind of gigs) now i'm playing mando and fiddle with The Parsons, a great husband and wife duo who do americana type stuff (think Robin & Linda WIlliams) Played jazz guitar in a number of swing bands, i have an original 1939 Gibson L5N that is my excuse to play jazz now. I played the part of Chet Atkins this year in the big time musical production of "Wildwood Flowers-The June Carter-Cash Story" - that was a lot of fun and good money too! - plus i got to play some cool old school country guitar. Recently got to play & direct a special "Symphonic Hoedown" show with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra - pretty neat to play with a crack 40pc orchestra backing you up!

i like the banjo, its the kind of instrument you just cant be sad or depressed or blue and play - something about it just naturally cheers you up and says "have some fun".

thats it for now!
