When I want to pull my fingers off

Thursday, April 26, 2012

The best thing for banjo was being unemployed. It was so much easier to devote even a little time each day, and semi-regularly a lot of time. Now I have to fight the sloth that descends as soon as I get home from arguing with teenagers all day.

I also think that I have banjo shoulder, if that exists. I skipped a day of playing and then, if my theory is correct, my muscles not having had a chance to at least warm up to the abuse proceeded to give me a horrendous head and neck ache. I am feeling a tetch better today, so I think if I just keep playing at least an hour a day I can stave it off until the kinks work themselves out.

I don't know what constitutes a breakthrough or not, but taking my banjo out in the yard when I wanted to snuggle up on the couch and sleep all day led me to get really in the zone...but I also was having trouble picking the right strings...I think picking sick gives me a slight glimpse of what people with severe ADD experience. I did persist to get a full practice in, and jammed a little with Sis later. I didn't really take any breaks but I did work out some back up for More To Be Pitied, which was fun.
