I've been playing the banjo for about 6 months, I've been learning with a no name aluminum rim banjo that belongs to my uncle. I wanted to make sure that I was going to stick with it before I went out and bought my own.
I have been looking at a RecordingKing 80 or 85, which I wanted to play them both do to the difference of wood. So I talk my little brother in to going with me to play the Solist (rk-85) at First Quality Music. We got there right at 8 minutes before closing time, this is in louisville ky and I live mid to western ky (about 2.5 hours). They were really nice and helpfull which means a lot even more when they stayed about 40 minutes late for me. Anyway I played the RecordingKing and I was sold till I picked up my Sullivan Deluxe. The RecordingKing's first string was pushing off the neck, it could have been me but I haven't had that problem before. The Deluxe sounded so much better than all the other banjos in my price range, and it really shined when playing up the neck. Plus it's made here in the great USA and even better here in Kentucky.
Anyway I'm really happy with it!!! It didn't make me play any better but it did get me pickin on it every little bit of down time I get. Happy Pickin and I'll post some pictures as some as I get a chance.
