The bass player in our "bluegrass band" is starting to put a lot of fancy bass runs into the music which we are playing, and I as the banjo player find this very difficult to play along with. Have you bluegrass banjo players out there got any advice on this subject? Do only banjo players have this problem or is it my personal problem regarding my abilliity to play along with?

I got my first banjo in the 1970's. It came to nothing! I splashed out on a proper bluegrass banjo in 2001. I started to learn the malodic style. It came to nothing! I flirted with the clawhammer style for about 2 months. Bored rigid! Then by accident I realised there was another style of banjo playing (Scruggs style) and I was hooked. So for the last 5 years I've been learnig Scruggs style banjo. I've been in a bluegrass band for the last 2 years and thoroughly enjoying this beautiful music.
I'm also able to (the last 18 months) disect a banjo break on a record, but not a tune as yet. So I'm purty pleased with my progress this last five years.
