Hey folks, just bought my first banjo and I'm getting ready to string her up and set her up.
I've been playing stringed instruments (guitar, mandolin) for many years and am looking forward to making some music with this one.
I purchased this at an estate auction. It interested me because of the build quality and the tone of the open strings. I also thought my mandolin playing experience might bode well in learning this four string instrument.
It's a Bacon Banjo Co, Sliver Bell Serenader. The Dow is stamped 33845, Groton, CT USA and the rim is stamped 33846.
It would be much appreciated if someone could give me an idea of year of manufacture and value range. It appears that all the parts except the head are original, the case appears original although it's made by Wurlitzer. It came with the original sales brochure. This instrument has been played but has been well cared for. It appears in very good condition. The frets are in good shape and the neck is arrow straight.
I have pics but have not figured out how to post them here.
Thanks for any help provided.
