Started out as a "folkie" in the early 60's playing guitar, then banjo (a Kay). Played a lot of Pete Seeger, Weavers, New Lost City Ramblers (bought a new Ode long neck)...a little bluegrass (got an old Epiphone Mayfair conversion). Got into rock 'n roll & country bands. Played mostly guitar...a little banjo ("Rocky Top"..."Foggy Mountain Breakdown"). Got really interested in some serious bluegrass pickin' in 2000, bought a used RB-75, took a couple of years of "catch-up" lessons from John Farmer (formerly with Del McCoury) and here I am...teaching. I've got 14 banjo students and 18 guitar students at home, at Menchey's Music in Hanover, PA, and Fox Run Music in Dover, PA. Things are different now! It's now 2022 and we're near the end of a 2 year pandemic. My "studio" now consists of 1 guitar and 2 banjo students. Being retired, I'm capable of teaching on-line, using Skype or Zoom.
