I ordered the instructions and some tools form deering to tweak my banjo Iread the manual a few times. They are very intricate instruments, I felt like a surgeon. My issue with it was that it just didn't sound like I wanted it to. I wasn't feeling or hearing the pop and it also seemed like the D string and the B string would always be right above or right below where I needed them to be. You couldn't tell so much playing it open, but once you fretted them on the fifth fret they were off ever so slightly. It was driving me crazy.
I won't go into all of the details of what I did now but after about two hours of work it sounds like a competely different instrument. Tuning on the strings was perfect, even volume between all the strings, perfect action all the way down the fret board, and just a really tight and even tone that seems to echo twice as loud now.
In the future, I think I will take maintenance a lot more seriously, it more or less is part of being a banjo player. I could have taken it to someone, but the thing is is only I know what kind of sound I like, and I'm going to play banjo for the rest of my life, so why not become knowledgeable about how to maintain it, right?
