am guessing a number of you won't take me seriously cuz i don't want to learn banjo fingering or chord positions at this point.  just want to transfer my limited guitar skills over.  i love mando also, and once i learn to play one - hopefully in the not to awfully distant future - i'll prolly go for the mandojo, as there is a mandojo player here in phoenix who is awesome on irish music.  i'm learning fiddle leads on the guitar, and want to learn them on mando and fiddle also, then on banjo, so that is down the line a ways - i'll be 65 in feb '07, but hope springs eternal.  i've been playing and singing with guitar for over 40 years with no lessons until recently.  and now i've discovered that there is so much more to learn that i don't want to put too much time into other instruments, and will take as many short cuts as possible with them - as in the deering b6 - so i can hone my (partially transferrable) skills on the guitar.  i'd also like to know music theory enough to understand why certain chord progressions sound better than others, and what are the typical progressions in certain situations, etc., so you can see i'm sorta stuck on chording, but also am starting to learn leads and extemporaneous breaks, so i feel i'm growing, albeit very slowly, in musicianship.  that's about it.  there will be banjo music in my life.  i hang with a few banjo players, and one of the highlights of those relationships was a few months ago when one of them played floyd kramer's "last date."  i'm just as impressed with "over the rainbow" as i am with "foggy mountain breakdown."  neither of which i can play myself - yet.  this blog is pretty spacy and nondirectional, so if any of you have any suggestions on how best to proceed, i'd appreciate your input.
