I was given a vintage no name open back banjo.  The neck was beyond repair so I replaced it. However the head is sitting way too high on the pot  and also there is a strange ring shaped hoop that sits within the head and I have never seen that before .. What is it?     I have pictures but am not sure how to add them to this email
