Howdy: Been exposed to tenor banjo for over 50 years with mixed results, one of which is my current difficulty in getting good sound out of a correctly tuned tenor. It takes too much pressure on these frail old fingers so I decided to try a plectrum. Very mellow sound. Wish I had done it long ago. My question regarding plectrum has to do with fingerboard length. For instance, I see a "Juggernaut" advertised with a 23.5" fingerboard as suitable for either tenor or plectrum tuning. This is approximately one-half inch longer than my tenors but considerably shorter than the 27" (+/-) on a traditional plectrum. With my hands this would definitely make it easier to play. However, wouldn't the Juggernaut lose its sound quality with plectrum tuning due to its shorter string lengths? Am I being picky? Why not simply tune a tenor to plectrum? Anything above the 12th fret is just noise anyway. Any comments?
Incidentally, I'd be interested in trading high-grade shotguns for high-grade banjos.
