newbie here. any advice?

I'm a singer who's been quite for a couple of years.  I'd like to learn the banjo.  I was hearing something on the radio awhile back, and was taken by the happiness the banjo can exude.  I want to get a nice banjo.  ( I have a little '53 martin guitar).  Something vibrant, but rich and resonant.  any advice?

folk singer as a kid, then theater,then life in general (YIKES!), I want to learn banjo. It's such a happy instrument.
