ོ Gibson RB-175 fret markers

I'm new to this site so please bare with; I just bought this instrument on ebay. I'm happy with it and it sounds great.  My question to anyone is why are the fret dots on 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, etc.?  As I am a banjo novice I'll take any advice I can get (even if you laugh at me).
