Old-Time Clawhammer banjo is the heartbeat of our early American heritage

The African American culture brought to this continent a musical concept that wedded itself to the European violin music of the first settlers. The offspring was a sound that carried this nation through the Civil War and then westward with the post-civil war expansion. For some of us this sound has become a part our modern existence. We play, collect, build, trade, and enjoy the banjo and the traditional music that is part of it's domain. Was it Steve Martin who said "you can't play the banjo and be sad".

Apprentice Luthiercraftsman immediately after college graduation to David A. Sturgill and Sons, Skyland Musical Instrument Co. of Piney Creek, NC. 1974-1975. Earned living during that time as dairy farm worker, and school bus driver for Piney Creek Elementary School. Married, living in Davidson NC. Currently gig with my band in Charlotte, NC.
