Mike Moss' post and playing of RETURN OF THE REGIMENT really took me back.
My father, Cyril Murphy (died 2007 at 101) played banjo all over England in the 1920s and 1930s. In the early 1970s, I asked him to teach me how to play. I rented a banjo and we began lessons. After a few months, he bought a Baldwin banjo and gave me his John Alvey Turner, which I still have.
In about 1975 I taped him playing numerous banjo solos (all the old English material) and also some duets with me playing first or second banjo. I was never that good, however, he was greatly pleased when we managed to get through a piece.
He played RETURN OF THE REGIMENT extremely well, it was one of his favorites.
Anyway, the point of this post is to see if there is anyone in the Vancouver BC area who would be able to turn the tape I have into a DVD and post it to this site and/or YouTube. I think it would be very helpful to those like Mike Moss who are fond of English banjo.
My email is cmurphy101@shaw if anyone cares to respond.
