I still marvel at the sound of a picked banjo, but when I need to relax I strum like a guitar. Dixie (my 5 string resonator) remains my most treasured instrument despite my focus being diverted towards fiddling. I tell myself that strumming helps with chords and such and that I can evolve into picking later. Perhaps it is my choice of strum music, but few songs evolve beyond the strum. Handbags and Gladrags, Hurt, Plug in baby, Wild horses are some of the strumstuck songs. I realise that these aren't typical banjo tunes, but I kinda like that.
Am I alone?
Is it acceptable banjo ettiquete?
Will it hold me back or help me later?
I do still pick BTW, thoughts would be appreciated.
