Bill, I would like to show you some pictures of a banjo that I fixed. I found this old banjo in Mountain View years ago. It had sparkly veneer glued on it which was coming off. Didn't think much of it until I picked it up and it was heavy, heavy. So I made the guy an offer. He took it and I brought it home and by that time the veneer was really coming off. So here's what I decided to do with it. I stripped all of the veneer off and covered the resonator and back and sides with bird's eye maple. I had all hardware gold plated. The tone ring was replaced by a Huber tone ring. It has a new neck from First Quality Banjo. The neck has Reno inlay?, Scruggs tuners. Resonator and neck has 25 to 30 coats of lacquer. Granada tailpiece, and double cut peg head. I did the work around 2010 here in Greenbrier, AR. The banjo sounds (according to me) purty darn good. Haven't felt like playing lately. I just get it out and look at it once in a while. If I can find the pics of the veneer on it I will send it too. I just thought you would like to see it. It had Henry J on the peghead. What this means I have no idea. (probably the owner). I had it looked at by a guy in Nashville (can't think of his name) and he said it was probably a parts banjo to begin with.
