Hi from Tigger, mother of 4 children in 3 decades (2 grown children, then "surprise" gifts at age 45- boy twins!). I need help! My husband and I are right now moving back to Ft. Collins, Colorado after 20 years in Oklahoma. My 4 brothers in Colorado all play musical instruments-piano, violin, base guitar and drums. I am learning to play the octave mandolin and my husband is just starting with the acoustic guitar. To our amazement, our 21 year old son (currently at OU in Norman, OK ) who has been taking piano lessons, wants to look for a mechanical engineering job in Colorado and wants to learn to play the banjo. For his 21st birthday next month, he's asked for a banjo. We haven't a clue where to start! He is very musically gifted, learning very quickly in his piano lessons, has a wonderful ability to learn chord progression. He wants to join into family jam sessions which are jazz, folk and celtic in style. ( think Rocky Mountains ). My budget: maybe $400-$600 ish. Can ya'll ( yes Okie ) help me set him on his way??
