I started playing guitar at age 9, and am 45 now. I started writing songs the first day I picked up the guitar. As you can tell from my favorite musicians, I like music that is passionate and compelling and takes the listener on an interesting journey vs. predictable song. Actually, I picked up banjo for about a year or two later for a few months, but I didn't appreciate the power, grace and beauty that the banjo had back then, and where I'm from, Bluegrass wasn't around much. When I went to the Opry in 2007 and saw Cia Cherryhomes play, I got totally re-hooked all over again, and haven't stopped since. Now I have three banjos: the RK-99, Fender-58 deluxe and the Goodtime II (its maple tone ring makes this sound great when recording with it, despite it's reputation as being a starter banjo). I always felt that your instrument is YOUR voice, so I never played other people's songs at all: I really enjoy listening to them, and get motivated by the moods they create, but I've been recording my own songs, and playing all the instruments myself for a long time, and enjoy making the CDs, some of which I have to make available here. The banjo has incredible adaptability, and I look forward to really making it have a unique voice
