Hello there!
Quick question about the pricing on Deering's Goodtime I series. I picked up the banjo back in September on impulse, really. I ended up buying an Epiphone MB-100--it's a fine enough starter banjo, but with the way that I'm practicing, I really want to upgrade to something of actual quality.
On Deering's website, they have the open back Goodtime banjo listed at $499. When looking at retailers in my area, they are listing the same exact banjo for $349. $150 is a pretty significant difference in this price range, so I'm writing to see if anyone knows the reason for this. I know that when you buy straight from the factory, the banjo does include a 6 year warrantee; is this the reason for the price difference?
It just seems odd to me that it's cheaper to get it from a dealer rather than straight from the company-- usually it's the other way around.
