1980 Ode

Friday, July 25, 2008

Hi Everyone,

This is my 1st post so be gentle! I've enjoyed reading your posts, especially about Ode/Ome banjos. I'm fairly new to the banjo world so I need some imput regarding pricing. I've an opportunity to purchase a 1980 Ode Model D. It's been well cared for and is in excellent condition. Research on the Ome website indicates it is one of the last models produced by Baldwin when they stopped putting the Baldwin banner on the headstock and simply used the Ode name.

I don't know what this banjo is worth. Can some of you more experienced in the ways of the banjo chime in?

Thanks a bunch.

I play a Martin D18GE, although I've never gotten very good. It's still fun and D18 sounds great. I decided to try banjo last year and it continues to be a work in progress. I decided my 1st banjo should be a good one so I bought a used Gibson RB3 Wreath and it was a beauty. They're not hard to find so I sold it and it's on to the next one, whatever that may be.
