Shopping Advice - Once again A Clawhammer Rookie Seeking Advice

I would welcome any and all opinions/advice on purchasing a relatively inexpensive open-back banjo ($700 or less). I have listened to several internet sound playbacks but I still am having difficulty in discerning the "ole timey" sound that I want. I have pretty much ruled out the various Deering Goodtime models for various reasons. I have found two others; the Recording King Madison RK-OT25-BR (Scooped) the Goldtone MM-150(Scooped), and the Morgan Monroe MM-OB50 (Scooped) all of which are in my price range. All opinions concerning either of these two as far as quality, sound, etc. is welcome too. So, I only have read the reviews available on these two.

  • Has any of the clawhammer people (or other "normal" banjo-playing people) in banjoland have any listening (or otherwise) experience with either one of these two? I  would really like to hear from anyone or all. I know t.hat the term "ole timey" is both objective and subjective and personal for that matter. I do not want the bluegrassy style sound that comes from a resonator type banjo. (I have two of those). Still I would very much like to hear from any & everyone. All input will be sincerely appreciated.

Everyone and everything banjo-related. Recently gravitating more towards clawhammer
and ol' timey music. Have too much arthritus in fingers...can't play too much bluegrass any more.
