I used to visit Harry Lane quite a bit back in the '90s. I have a couple of his banjos, some of his furniture and other items he made over the years. He and Randy Wood, who also lived in Savannah, had a good-natured competition going to build the fanciest instrument. After Harry arrived back in the US with a container-load of satinwood, he gave Randy some. Randy built a beautiful mandolin with some of it, which you can view on his website. Harry, not to allow a challenge to go unanswered, built this over-the-top instrument. He allowed me to take it home to have it professionally photographed. This is the result. The photographer will remain nameless since I was less than satisfied with the pictures, but they're all we have. Harry had no interest in selling the instrument and I have no idea what happened to it. Someone please tell me how to post photos here and I'll put them up.
