This past weekend, I judged the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention in Athens, AL. It is such a great contest, and has a lot of history. One great thing about TVOTFC is all the musicians jamming, visiting old friends, and making new friends behind gorgeous Founders Hall. Does anyone have any old photos or memories/stories that you could share regarding TVOTFC in Athens, AL.

I received my new NECHVILLE on May 1st....check it out. I also have a Gibson that was purchased from Rual Yarbrough and a Cardin made by Kenny Cardin. In 2011 I won a Deering Eagle II at MERLEFEST and an OME Southern Cross at the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship in Winfield, KS.
Favorite Bands/Musicians:
Most ALL Banjo players and musicians in general. I am amazed by anyone who can master an instrument, especially one that can wear you out like the banjo can. WHEW! I would like to thank a few people for helping me. Scooter Muse is at the top of the list for teaching me most everything that I know. Randal Morton and James McKinney also have my gratitude. I have been EXTREMELY lucky to have been mentored by such great musicians. THANK YOU!

I am a small town boy from Alabama...not anything special or famous and probably will never be. I have a deep love for music and a dream to live my life playing it but I am smart enough to know that it will probably never happen for me so I continue to go to high school and have intentions of going to college.
I began playing the banjo in 2003 despite the laughs from my mom and dad. They just couldn't figure out why I wanted to play "A BANJO" .... go figure. They even doubted my sincerity to the point of putting me off for 3 years until the fated day that I found a classified add for a banjo and preceeded to tell my mom that I had enough in my petty savings to buy it. YES...you can imagine what I was to get. I won't mention the make but it was a beginner quality banjo which to my satisfaction I quickly out grew. SO...at 13 I began lessons. At this point in my life, God already existed to me but I was still missing something.......I think it must have been the BANJO because when I first picked it up I felt complete. So, I give God thanks everyday for leading me to an instrument that most people think I am crazy for playing. Just the way I want people to perceive me "CRAZY". They may very well have a right to call me "CRAZY" because I am all about the banjo. It has become a living part of me so I spend a tremendous amount of time with the banjo. I live to play it for many reasons and can be found with it in my hand whenever possible. Anyway, I picked the user name "pickingit" because that is what I do....I PICK. Picking is what you will find me doing when I am not in school, which is most of the night. I do try to squeeze in a couple hours of sleep and would love to pick at school if I was not afraid that it may prevent me from graduating in May 2008, which I desperately want to do. SO.......TO ALL OF YOU "CRAZY" and "NOT CRAZY" BANJO PICKERS...I welcome you to my page as friends and hope to be a friend to you! Weston Stewart. Biography UPDATES!!! September 2008-I did successfully graduate! So...it is off to college for me....I really can't believe that I am doing it again. May 2011-completing my third year of college this summer .... YES!! 2011 Merlefest Bluegrass Banjo Champion (Wilkesboro, North Carolina) 2011 National Bluegrass Banjo Champion (Winfield, Kansas) 2011 has been good to me!!
