So we've gotten a bit of snow in the greater-Charlotte area over the past day or so, and I'm stuck without my banjo until Monday or Tuesday most likely. Apparently all of this cold, dry air shifted some parts that didn't need shifting. It's in the process of getting a fresh setup; new bridge, strings changed, neck adjusted... basically the works. Hopefully when it comes back it will sound better than ever. More than anything, I'd really like to learn to do this stuff myself, but I don't even know where to begin. Maybe one day I'll learn, but in the meantime, I'll continue my practice over at TTSB (Tony Trischka School of Banjo) and I'll continue to use the Murphy Method DVDs. Murphy released a Beginner Banjo track to follow on her blog a while back, and I've been following the DVDs according to that. So far I've worked my way through Banjo n the Hollow, Cripple Creek, Boil Them Cabbage Down, Cumberland Gap, and I Saw the Light. I started Foggy Mountain Breakdown and noticed a guy named Rob had posted some links on this site to a few of his videos. Let me tell you, his instruction is great! From what I've read, he does limited banjo lessons with students over skype. I'm considering signing up, but I've also got Jeff Whittington in my area, so that may be another option. As far as FMB goes, I have all the licks down and memorized, but it's gonna take a while to get them up to speed. When I get my banjo back, I'll practice about 30min to 1 hour just on that song with gradual metronome increases every night. Hopefully I'll be belting that one at full speed around time for Merlefest!

I've been in love with bluegrass since I was 13. My grandfather and I would listen to it every Sunday afternoon on the radio. I've always had a desire to play banjo and have finally decided to turn that dream into a reality!
