open tunings on banjo

I'm just starting out on banjo.  Hoping to learn to play clawhammer style but just want to be able to play well in any style.  About open tunings...does anyone know what tuning Ole Belle Reed used on "I've always been a rambler"?  I would like to play in minor tunings and hope to play The Cuckoo some day as well.  Yes, I've tried fretting the chords in the standard open G tuning but it seems there must be an easier way to do it.  Any help is very much appreciated.
